It was officially declared by the Spaniards themselves. Every third Thursday of June from this year forward was announced as World Tapas Day. And Bomba knew exactly how to celebrate. Honed to perfection and curated by Jesse Gerner and Jimmy McLennan, we rolled out a 10-course mega menu (yes, ten) giving a nod to the past and present to capture the different regions of Spain. We even gave a table of four out to our subscriber community. Score more seats like this – subscribe.
To create the menu, we had to look back. How Tapas originated? They were used as saucers set over glasses in taverns to keep flies out. And that’s just how the mega menu began. Jesse & Jimmy kicked off with an original tapa over a glass of our favourite Casa Mariol Blanco Vermouth. Moving on, the Baked Hervey Bay scallop with fino butter & migas was a crowd pleaser, as well as the moreish Moorish spiced lamb cutlet. Quail marinated in a paprika spice mix, topped with pistachio and buckwheat was a favourite from staff, and guests echoed them on the evening. See photos of the dishes
The day dedicated to Spain’s best-known culinary treat’s was packed full of festive, punchy dishes where good company and great tasting plates were the star. Guests made their way to the rooftop after the meal for cocktails and comas – it was a big one.
About time it had its own day. Bring on World Tapas Day #2!
